As a father of four, with his two youngest children still attending San Marcos Unified schools, Derrick has a personal stake in the success of our district. His wife is also special education teacher with San Marcos Unified, giving their family a firsthand perspective of the challenges facing both students and staff.

 

For the past ten years, Derrick has served in a senior leadership role with a company that produces security and access systems, including for school district clients throughout California and the United States. Through that work, Derrick has developed extensive experience with the systems and strategies that help create safe, secure learning environments. He understands that parents should be able to send their children to school with confidence, and he wants to put his professional experience to work helping SMUSD achieve that reality.

 

Derrick also brings a strong background in finance and private-sector leadership to the school board. With a degree in finance and years of management experience in the private sector, he understands the importance of responsible budgeting, long-term planning, and making difficult decisions with an eye toward the future.

Derrick graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a degree in Finance and was also a college athlete.

Derrick and his family are active members of Anthem Church here in San Marcos. The Davis family have been active in San Marcos youth sports for many years.
